Building a knowledge based economy

Setting a new standard for Africa
Accelerated growth for Nigeria
This is an initiative by the leaders of the National Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria to:-
- unlock economic growth and
- to move Nigeria and Africa from a mineral income based economy to a knowledge income based economy.
This web-site is an interactive site to facilitate the consultation by the Union’s leaders with its members on the strategy and key elements proposed here.
Background
The President of Nigeria and the Congress have identified electricity delivery as key cornerstone for growth.
In the deep seated believe that Africa must take its rightful place in the world, it is the Union’s objective to both support these national goals and assist with the downstream economic development against the economic reality as setout below.
Economic reality
Africa is one of the richest continents. Yet the majority of our people live on minimum wages or in total poverty.
A key factor between Africa and other continents is the commercial and intellectual property input (Added Value) which in the case of Africa is far below that of other countries. Africa’s development has to a large extent been mineral based.
We have to move our economies to become knowledge income based.
Following a global leader and directorship development program hosted in South Africa for the Union by Ecom-vision; (See “Who + contacts” for contact details.)
A strategy was formulated to meet the above objectives by focusing on the development of:-
a global competitive workforce within a framework of partnerships
Key elements
Key elements of the proposed program are the introduction of:-
- 1) Future directed management methodologies,
- 2) Innovation, value adding and new business development programs.
Supported through partnerships with suppliers that support the overall vision and are prepared to partake.(Specific value chain suppliers and customers)
The strategy opens major growth options for supplier and is seen as a new proactive strategy to manage the adverse globalizing factors.
- 3) Sound-administration to counter corruption
Due to the high negative and destructive impact of corruption on Nigeria and Africa it is considered critical that the program must include the development of sound-administration and the use of international benchmarked options to build admin-capacity, as well as, anti-corruption forums.
Inclosing
Africa has nearly limitless human potential. This is the first program that has been designed to unlock this potential over a very wide front. The proposed program has the potential to unlock thousands of work opportunities, accelerate economic growth and increase the per capita income of Nigeria 3 fold.
