Changing economic circumstances in future will demand a new approach by every person to his or her career development.

An approach where the individual accepts responsibility for his or her own development.

In future; a career qualification and job skills will no longer be the guarantee of employment.

An added value approach with a broad understanding of economic, market and trade factors will become the foundation of every job.

Such an understanding will be required in all professions from engineering through to the medical; including administrative work opportunities.

Such challenges will not be easy for the average worker.

It is specifically in this regard that support and guidance must come from the employer and union management.

It should however not be considered as the primary responsibility of the employer or union management, but the primary responsibility of the individual.

It is foreseen that in a knowledge economy, collaboration with regards to the future development of individual workers takes place within a collaborative framework between employers and union management.
